Short annotation of structure:

four and five storey concrete apartments with permanent formwork.

East road is a new four and five storey complex, “T” shaped block, with over 60 apartments. The residential complex is as a part of new urban district on a green field site near the City Centrum in Dublin Docks, Dublin 3. The site, East road, is approximately 80m by 50m in area. The project is divided into 3 separated blocks of buildings A – C.

As is recommended per geotechnical site investigation, the foundations are to be constructed as shallow foundations to bear onto the marine clay.

The superstructure is designed to meet the performance requirements detailed in relevant National Structural Concrete Specification. The available structural zones are shown on the Architect’s drawings.

B&E drawings detailing a reinforced pre-cast concrete superstructure using the VST system with VST pre-cast flat slabs. Difficult design of transfer level at first floor has been done. Result of design was a slab with total thickness of 450 mm and system of in situ RC beams and columns. B&E have been designed with reinforced pre – cast concrete shear walls. The current proposal allows for frame action to resist the torsion induced shear stresses.

A timber truss roof has been developed to minimize the weight of the roof structure.

Internal flights of stairs are to be provided as a pre-cast concrete stairs.

Personal duties and responsibilities:

  • Develop concept of design of the structure, incorporating the requirements of the external design teams.
  • Preparing preliminary and detailed design of the building structures and load calculations.
  • Production of 2D, calculation of building structures and single elements using finite element analyses
  • Produce detailed design information including calculations and design sketches..
  • Produce of the RC drawings, supervision of  technicians, check of RC Detailing drawing according to BS 8110
  • Attend site during construction phase if necessary to ensure construction is in accordance with drawings or structural behavior.
